One of the major fears people have when they contemplate swinging is the threat of contracting a disease. We have good news and bad news for you.

The good news: we (personally) know of no one who has ever contracted ANY sexually transmitted disease while swinging. That certainly doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, but from what we’ve seen, it must be rare.
The bad news: people do not take the threat as seriously as they should.
If you’re smart, you’ll use a condom, every time. (and remember, condoms are NOT always effective in stopping STDs or pregnancies!)
If you want to be extra safe, you’ll use a condom for oral sex as well (there are dental dams for eating pussy!); however, the fact is that sexually transmitted diseases are generally not transmitted as well orally, and very few swingers ever use condoms for oral sex.
And for intercourse? Some people do, some people don’t worry about condoms. If it freaks you out to see people engage in condom-less sex, you may want to shy away from on-premise clubs, because it does happen.
There ARE circumstances when the need for condoms is diminished – when both people have current STD tests and one or both are ‘safe’ (naturally or surgically sterile, to avoid unwanted pregnancies). There are friends who swing together regularly – or even exclusively – who don’t use condoms because they know their partners well enough to have a diminished worry. So don’t think that every instance of condom-less sex is insanely dangerous…but as a general rule,  to start having condom-less sex with a swinger is pretty damn dumb.
The bottom line: If you want to be safe – and you SHOULD want to be safe - USE condoms when you swing, EVERY time (and please, PLEASE throw away your own used condoms!). get tested regularly for STDs (most local health departments will test for free) and STAY disease free!
